THE CLOSUREFAST™ PROCEDURE
Also known as radiofrequency ablation, this widely used minimally invasive, in-office procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the extent of your condition. It uses radio frequency energy to close the vein. When compared to traditional vein stripping, the ClosureFast™ Procedure requires only local anesthesia and a minimal recovery time, allowing patients to typically return to work the same day.
Your DVVI board-certified vein specialist will start by numbing the areas of the vein to be treated. We then insert a small catheter, guided by ultrasound, painlessly into the vein. Radiofrequency energy collapses the vein, the collapsed vein is absorbed, and blood is rerouted to healthy veins.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
During and after your procedure, you will experience less pain, less bruising, and a faster recovery. We cover the area with a compression stocking that is left on overnight. You will resume full activity immediately following the procedure, and most patients report relief from pre-operative symptoms immediately after the procedure. In fact, an international, multi-center study showed that 93% of treated veins were still closed three years following treatment with the ClosureFast™ Procedure.
WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL RISKS?
The risk of complications is minimal, but please talk to one of the vein specialists at Desert Vein & Vascular Institute to determine if the ClosureFast™ procedure is right for you.
HOW DOES THE CLOSUREFAST™ PROCEDURE WORK TO TREAT SUPERFICIAL VEINS?
Since valves cannot be repaired, the only alternative is to re-route blood flow through healthy veins. Traditionally, this has been done by surgically removing (stripping) the troublesome vein from your leg. But the ClosureFast™ Procedure provides a far less invasive alternative to vein stripping by simply closing the problem vein. Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins take over and empty blood from your legs. DVVI uses both the ClosureFast™ and VenaSeal procedures to treat varicose veins. These minimally invasive treatments for superficial venous reflux are available exclusively through DVVI.
HOW LONG DOES THE CLOSUREFAST™ PROCEDURE TAKE?
A procedure takes approximately two minutes, though patients normally spend 60 to 90 minutes at our DVVI offices due to normal pre– and post–treatment procedures. These procedures are quick, have little to no downtime, and are most often covered by your insurance. You can return to work or home the same day and resume normal physical activities such as hiking, biking, golfing, swimming, running or shopping the next day.
