How is VenaSeal™ Performed?
VenaSeal™ is an office-based procedure that takes less than 30 minutes. Under ultrasound guidance, a small catheter is inserted into the affected vein through a small access site. This catheter is placed at a specific area in the affected vein, and a small amount of medicated glue vein treatment is injected.
Light external pressure is applied to help the vein walls stick together. This procedure is repeated throughout the length of the vein. Finally, the catheter is removed, and a small bandage is placed at the access site.
The VenaSeal™ closure system uses a medical-grade adhesive called cyanoacrylate. This glue has been used for many years for various surgeries, including brain, heart, and plastic surgery. Once the glue is injected into the vein, it seals the vein. Over time, the vein becomes hard (sclerosed) and is gradually absorbed by the body.
Step 1: Catheter is placed in vein
Using an ultrasound, your doctor will position a catheter into the diseased vein through a small access site.
Step 2: Specialized adhesive is placed
A specially formulated medical adhesive is placed in the diseased vein via a small catheter.
Step 3: Light external pressure is applied
Light external pressure is applied to adhere the vein walls together. This step is repeated for the length of the vein.
Step 4: Catheter is removed
The catheter is removed and a single adhesive bandage is applied to the vein access site.

VenaSeal™ Procedure FAQ
VenaSeal™ is the most recent, advanced, and non-surgical FDA-approved treatment for varicose veins that uses a special medicated vein glue to close or seal off the diseased vein permanently. VenaSeal™ is minimally invasive, safe, effective, and produces immediate results.
Healthy veins in the leg have valves that push the blood from the leg toward the heart against gravity. In varicose veins, these valves become weak and cannot push blood towards the heart. As a result, blood tends to pool in the leg veins, making veins look thick, bulgy, or twisted, and can also cause significant pain. In the United States, nearly 23% of adults develop varicose veins.
If you are suffering from varicose veins and need a simple yet reliable solution, consider VenaSeal™ treatment.
Varicose veins are not just cosmetic issues. It can be a painful condition for most patients. Symptoms, like cramps, swelling, itching and tingling around the vein, and heaviness in the leg significantly impact the quality of life. If you experience these symptoms, it is best to consult our team of board-certified specialists at Empire Vein who have extensive experience in treating vein diseases.
During the initial consultation, a specialist will perform a complete physical exam and ultrasound assessment to check the extent of vein disease. Based on the severity and your overall health, your doctor will then discuss your personalized treatment plan in detail.
As VenaSeal™ is the latest, minimally invasive treatment offered for vein treatment, currently, most insurances are now accepting Venaseal™ if medically indicated. After a complimentary ultrasound and consultation, our specially trained staff will assist and guide you through every step to ensure a smooth and affordable process.
Most patients feel little, if any, pain during the outpatient procedure.
Our experience in treating patients using VenaSeal™ and numerous other clinical trials have shown us that the VenaSeal™ procedure is extremely safe. Patients rarely report complications such as allergic reactions to the adhesive, infection, and blood clots after the procedure.
The VenaSeal procedure is designed to reduce recovery time. Many patients return to normal activity immediately after the procedure. Your doctor can help you determine when you can return to normal activity.
